Indra Lacis

Indra Lacis is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art History at Case Western Reserve University. She holds a PhD in modern and contemporary art from the same institution. Her research focuses on post-war and contemporary American and European art, emphasizing participation, authorship, museum spaces, and performance. Lacis has curated over two dozen exhibitions at institutions like the Cleveland Museum of Art and Western Michigan University’s Richmond Center for Visual Arts (RCVA), where she served as Director of Exhibitions until 2022. Notable projects include beLONGING: Lithuanian Artists in Chicago (2024) and Spiral: Up & Out (2019).

Lacis’s expertise in museum studies and curatorial practices has led to acquisitions for the Western Michigan University Art Collection and editorial roles for platforms like ArtHopper.org. Her forthcoming essay on Lithuanian artist Rudolf Baranik, co-published by the Balzekas Museum and Lithuanian National Museum of Art (2025), further highlights her interdisciplinary approach to art history.

Her career bridges academia and mainstream museums, with a focus on collaborative storytelling through exhibitions and writing. Key roles include curatorial fellowships at moCa Cleveland and research support for major traveling exhibitions such as Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse (2014–2016).
