Iman Raad is an Adjunct Instructor in the School of Art at The Cooper Union. He holds an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University and a BE in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sistan and Baluchestan. His interdisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, embroidery, graphic design, and performance lectures, blending traditional Persian artistic traditions with contemporary media and cross-cultural themes.
His work explores fragmented narratives, cultural memory, and the interplay of historical and digital imagery. Notable exhibitions include 'A Third Language' at Queensland Art Gallery (2023), 'Sad Easterner' at Dastan Gallery (2022), and participation in the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (2018). His pieces are part of prestigious collections such as The British Museum and Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Raad currently resides in New York City as a Queens Museum Studio Program resident.
His research interests focus on reimagining Persian art within modern contexts, using techniques like reverse glass painting and egg tempera to create layered, evocative works. He also contributes to the contemporary Persian design movement through graphic design projects.
