Dr. Imam Arafat is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, part of the Faculty of Business & Law at the University of Portsmouth. He joined in 2016 after three years at the University of Dundee, where he earned his PhD in Accounting & Finance (2018) and an MRes (2013). His research focuses on accounting regulations, fair value disclosure, corporate governance, and institutional determinants of compliance. He holds ACCA qualifications and serves on the Faculty’s research ethics committee and library advisory board.

His research explores how institutional factors influence corporate disclosure practices and regulatory compliance, with a focus on IFRS, SME accounting standards, and cross-cultural accounting education. He has contributed to global debates on fair value accounting anomalies and public sector accounting inefficiencies in emerging markets.
- Awards: Commended as 'Most Outstanding Masters Student' by the University of Dundee’s School of Business (2013).
Teaching responsibilities include Business Accounting, Financial Reporting, and dissertation supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He actively engages with media and academic communities, presenting at international conferences and serving as an external examiner for doctoral theses.
