Kenichi Akiba

Kenichi Akiba is a Professor at the Graduate School of Accountancy, Faculty of Commerce, Waseda University since 2009. He previously held professional roles at KPMG AZSA LLC (2007-2009) and Asahi Audit Corporation (1986-1998). His academic work focuses on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Corporate Disclosure, and Lease Accounting.

Research interests center on international accounting standards, fair value accounting, and financial reporting frameworks. His recent work examines IFRS conceptual developments, lease accounting reforms, and ESG integration into financial statements.

He received the 67th Nikkei Economic Book Cultural Award (2024) for his book Freedom from Investment Risk. His publications span topics like amortized cost accounting, revenue recognition standards, and IFRS convergence projects, with a focus on Japanese compliance.

Professional activities include committee memberships at the Japan Securities Analysts Association, National Tax Council, and Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan. He has served as a visiting researcher at the Bank of Japan and held board positions at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and JAFCO Group.
