Dr. Imad Zrari is a researcher at the Centre for Anglophone Studies (CAS) at Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès (UT2J), specializing in contemporary British literature with a focus on metamodernism, postmodernism, and the works of Jonathan Coe and Hanif Kureishi. He completed his doctorate in 2023 with a thesis examining oscillation as a key aesthetic and political concept in contemporary British fiction.
His research interests center on the theoretical framework of metamodernism, particularly how contemporary literature oscillates between postmodern and modern elements. His work critically examines how British novelists navigate political and cultural transitions, especially in the context of Brexit and evolving national identity. Dr. Zrari's scholarship demonstrates how literary works serve as critical instruments for understanding contemporary socio-political phenomena.
Dr. Zrari's publications reveal a consistent focus on the intersection of aesthetics and politics in contemporary British literature. His work shows how authors like Coe and Kureishi use oscillation as both a narrative technique and political strategy, challenging traditional literary periodization and offering nuanced perspectives on contemporary crises. His research contributes significantly to understanding how literature reflects and shapes political discourse in times of transition.
Dr. Zrari completed his External CAPES in English in 2013 and his doctorate between 2017-2023 under the supervision of Professor Laurent Mellet. His doctoral work has established him as a significant voice in metamodernist literary criticism, particularly regarding how contemporary British fiction navigates the complex terrain between postmodern skepticism and modernist engagement.
