Dr. Alison Gibbons is a Professor and Reader in Contemporary Stylistics at the Department of Humanities, part of Sheffield Hallam University's College of Social Sciences and Arts. Her research focuses on contemporary narrative forms, employing cognitive stylistics and narratology to analyze autofiction, metamodernism, and global literature. She holds a BA (Hons), MA, PGcertHE, and PhD.
Her work explores autofiction’s reading experiences, metamodernist fiction’s stylistic strategies, and the intersection of Arab Spring Fiction with cultural paradigms. She supervises PhD projects on multimodal literature, therapeutic reading interventions, and emoji usage in digital discourse. She has authored/co-edited books such as Multimodality, Cognition, and Experimental Literature and Metamodernism: Historicity, Affect, and Depth after Postmodernism.
Her teaching spans linguistics, stylistics, and creative writing, including modules on contemporary fiction and experimental writing. She serves on academic boards, including the International Association of Literary Semantics.
