Ilona Babenko is an Associate Professor of Finance at the W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University (ASU). Her research focuses on executive compensation design, insider trading, corporate financing policies, and political activism of corporations. She holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.S. in Physics from the University of Minnesota. Prior to ASU, she was an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and taught at Bocconi University and VGSF Business School.
Her academic accolades include the 2014 Arditti Center for Risk Management Award, the 2012 Fidelity Fellowship, and multiple Best Paper Awards. She has published in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science. Her work has been featured in New York Times, USA Today, and Forbes.
Teaching includes courses like FIN 782: Theory of Finance II and FIN 361: Advanced Managerial Finance. She has received grants such as the CERG Competitive Research Grant (HK$480,000) and the RPC Competitive Research Grant (HK$150,000). Her consulting work includes expertise in corporate finance and executive compensation design for Fidelity Investments.
