Ilias Pappas

Ilias Pappas is a Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and also holds a professorship at the Department of Information Systems, University of Agder (UiA). His research spans data science, digital transformation, human-centered AI, user experience, digital marketing, and e-services, with a methodological focus on fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA).

His work emphasizes practical applications in public services, organizational innovation, and responsible AI deployment. Recent projects explore human-AI collaboration in welfare systems, algorithmic fairness, and employee-driven digital innovation, reflecting his commitment to bridging academic research with real-world impact in both public and private sectors.

Pappas has published over 150 articles in top-tier journals including European Journal of Information Systems and Information & Management. Current research trends reveal a strong emphasis on citizen-centric AI design, transparency in public services, and configurational approaches to digital maturity models, often leveraging mixed-methods and fsQCA frameworks.

As Chair of IFIP Working Group 6.11: Communication Aspects of the E-World, he leads international research on digital ecosystems, complementing his editorial roles and conference track chair positions at ECIS and AMCIS.
