Ikuo Masuho serves as Medical Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Dakota's Sanford School of Medicine, where he leads the Masuho Lab focused on G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling research.
His research expertise spans molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and computational approaches to study GPCR signaling pathways. Dr. Masuho earned his PhD from Chiba University in Japan and has developed a research program investigating how GPCR signaling molecules control cellular functions and contribute to disease pathogenesis.
The Masuho Lab's research focuses on interpreting molecular mechanisms of GPCR signaling, identifying disease causes, and applying findings to medical treatments. Their work includes functional studies of GPCR mutations in rare genetic disorders, examining non-pathogenic genetic variants, and developing precision medicine approaches targeting the GPCR signaling pathway.
Dr. Masuho's publication record demonstrates significant contributions to understanding GPCR signaling mechanisms, with recent work published in high-impact journals including Cell, Science, and Nature Structural & Molecular Biology. His research spans structural biology, molecular pharmacology, and translational applications of GPCR signaling knowledge.
He collaborates extensively with Dr. Kirill Martemyanov and other researchers in the field, with research groups focusing on Pediatrics and Rare Diseases as well as Enabling Technologies.
