Igor Yakovenko is an Associate Professor at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience and the Department of Psychiatry. His work focuses on the comorbidity of addiction and mental health, with particular emphasis on cannabis and opioid use interventions. He leads the Transdiagnostic Addiction Lab, emphasizing open science and statistical methodological rigor.
Education includes a PhD from the University of Calgary and a BSc from the University of Toronto. His research develops evidence-based public health interventions, including online platforms for substance abuse treatment. A key focus is integrating clinical guidelines for co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders.
Recent work includes national clinical guidelines for opioid use disorder (CMAJ 2024) and behavioral studies on cannabis use outcomes (International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction 2024). He critiques survey data quality in psychological research (Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology 2022) and explores digital addiction via video game avatar use (Computers in Human Behavior 2023).
His lab addresses barriers to mental healthcare access through innovative screening tools and self-management platforms like SSMRT. Collaborations span addiction medicine, psychiatry, and digital health innovation.
