Ignazio Angeloni is a Senior Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE and a part-time professor at the Robert Schuman Center of the European University Institute in Florence. He previously served as a member of the ECB's Supervisory Board from 2014 to 2019 and held key roles at Italy’s Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Italy, and the IMF. He earned an undergraduate degree from Bocconi University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Research & Expertise: His work focuses on financial stability, banking regulation, European integration, and monetary policy. Notable contributions include analyses of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, digital euro implications, and post-pandemic economic recovery strategies. His recent book Money In Crisis (2025) critiques digital currency innovations and inflation risks.
Publications: Over 15 policy blogs and academic papers since 2020, addressing topics like the ECB's strategy review, energy policy challenges, and Wirecard scandal reforms. Recent works include discussions on banking union reforms and EU sanctioning strategies.
