Ignacio Avellino is a tenured Research Fellow at Sorbonne Université working in the Institut des Systèmes Intelligents et de Robotique (ISIR) as part of the RPI-Bio team. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction at the intersection of remote collaboration (CSCW), healthcare, learning, and robotics. Specializing in Surgical Telementoring, he studies technology interaction in operating rooms, particularly with surgical robots for remote expert mentoring.

He supervises multiple PhD students including Anastasyia Zakreuskaya, Amanda Koh, and Nour Karoui, covering topics like AR surgical planning and interactive operating room systems. Active in academic service, he serves on the ACM CHI 2025 Health Subcommittee and co-chaired IHM '24.
