Stéphane COTIN is a Research Fellow at Inria, leading the MIMESIS team. His primary research focuses on physics-based simulation, real-time soft-tissue deformation modeling, and their applications in augmented reality and medical contexts. He initiated the SOFA open-source framework for advanced simulations, now a global reference. He has authored over 150 scientific articles and holds roles in major conferences such as ISBMS, MICCAI, and IPCAI. Since 2012, he has been a co-founder and president of InSimo’s scientific board.
Prior to Inria, he served as Research Lead at CIMIT and as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. His educational background includes expertise in numerical methods and medical simulation technologies.
Research interests emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, blending computational mechanics with clinical applications. The SOFA project underscores his commitment to open-source innovation and accelerating research dissemination.
He maintains active involvement in academic governance, contributing to conference organization and industry partnerships through InSimo.
