Ieshaah Murphy is an Assistant Professor of Law at Howard University School of Law, where she teaches Evidence, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure. Prior to joining Howard, she served as Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Criminal Defense and Racial Justice Clinic at the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and practiced as a civil rights attorney and public defender for over a decade.

- B.A. in Sociology, Phi Beta Kappa, from Spelman College (Gates Millennium Scholar, Dean’s Scholar, Valedictorian)
- J.D. from Harvard Law School (multiple awards for excellence in trial advocacy)
Her scholarly work and advocacy focus on racial disparities in the criminal legal system, indigent defense reform, and civil rights. She has developed race-conscious training programs for defenders nationwide through her role as training director at the Black Public Defender Association.

Professor Murphy has trained lawyers and law students at institutions including Harvard Law School, American University Washington College of Law, George Washington University Law School, and as faculty for the National Criminal Defense College, Deborah T. Creek Criminal Practice Institute, and National Legal Aid and Defender Association programs. She previously co-founded a defender training program for law students from historically excluded communities.
