Idurre Lazcano Quintana

Idurre Lazcano Quintana is a Professor at the University of Deusto, affiliated with the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences and the Department of Social and Human Sciences. She has been a researcher at the Institute for Leisure Studies at the University of Deusto since 2000 and serves as Director of the Master's Degree in Leisure Project Management since the 2014-2015 academic year. She is also a member of the Basque Government's Official Research Team on Leisure and Human Development (Category A, Ref. IT 587) and serves on the editorial board of the journal Contextos Educativos.

Dr. Lazcano Quintana's research focuses on youth leisure practices, spaces, and participation, with particular emphasis on leisure for people with disabilities, active aging through leisure, and leisure education. Her work spans theoretical and practical dimensions of leisure studies, examining both its social significance and its potential for human development across different life stages and social contexts. She has developed significant expertise in understanding how leisure practices transform in response to social challenges, including the pandemic's impact on youth leisure and the role of leisure in community resilience.

Her extensive publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly contributions to the field of leisure studies, with particular focus on youth leisure, disability inclusion, and the social value of leisure. She has published in high-impact journals across multiple continents, reflecting the international relevance of her work. Her research shows increasing attention to restorative leisure practices, community resistance, and the application of serious leisure theory in diverse contexts, particularly in Latin America.

Dr. Lazcano Quintana has supervised five PhD theses and is currently supervising two more, in addition to overseeing more than 70 master's projects since 2001. She has participated in over 70 research projects, including more than 10 competitive projects and serving as principal investigator in 29 projects. She has taught as a visiting professor at universities across Latin America, including in Honduras, Ecuador, Brazil, and Uruguay, demonstrating her international academic engagement and influence.

Her work with the Institute for Leisure Studies at the University of Deusto forms the core of her academic activities, where she contributes to both research and educational initiatives. She is actively involved in the Red OcioGune (OcioGune International Forum), which represents an important network for her international collaborations and research dissemination.
