- Honours Degree in Environmental Management (1999) – University of Adelaide, Australia
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Natural Resource Management (1997) – University of Adelaide, Australia
Research Interests:
Dr Oliver's research is deeply interdisciplinary, focusing on the environmental fate and behaviour of pollutants, particularly in soil and water systems. His work spans ecotoxicology, soil and mine site remediation, nutrient management, and water quality. He is especially interested in the role of soil amendments such as biochar and water treatment residuals in mitigating environmental contamination and enhancing ecosystem health. His studies often incorporate terrestrial invertebrates like earthworms as bioindicators of soil health and toxicity.
Scientific Recognition:
- Fellow of the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS)
- Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA)
- Editor: Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (Terrestrial Ecotoxicology)
- Editorial Board Member: Journal of Environmental Management
- Member: SETAC, Earthworm Society of Britain, NERC Peer Review College
Supervision & Mentorship:
Dr Oliver has supervised a wide range of postgraduate students, including:
- PhD students: Tomi Turner, Mayssa Alhar, Karrar Arab
- MSc students: Bradley Bell, Thomas Pattinson, Katie Duffy, John Nightingale, Tom Elliston, Dylan Beard, Anthony Howells, Steven Lewis, Kenroy Millwood
Research Teams & Collaborations:
He collaborates extensively with international researchers and has delivered keynote presentations in Iraq, China, Canada, and Australia.
