Dr Ian Tharp is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Greenwich's School of Human Sciences. He joined the university in 2010 as a Senior Lecturer and has held roles including Programme Leader for the MSc Psychology Conversion course, Chair of the Departmental Ethics Committee, and undergraduate/postgraduate project lead. He has taught Psychology modules at all academic levels (4-7), supervised postgraduate research students to completion, and developed university-wide CPD courses. In 2016, he became Deputy Head of Department for Psychology, Social Work and Counselling, overseeing the relocation to Greenwich Maritime campus and the creation of the School of Human Sciences in 2019. He served as Faculty Director of Learning & Teaching (Interim) in 2021, managing the Faculty's educational portfolio during the pandemic response.
His research focuses on individual differences and intersects with cognitive psychology and biological psychology. He has contributed to curriculum design and quality enhancement initiatives across the Faculty of Education, Health and Human Sciences.
