Ian Stuart Hitchcock is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of York. His research focuses on hematopoiesis, thrombosis, and immune-mediated blood disorders, with a particular emphasis on the thrombopoietin receptor (MPL) and its role in platelet production and hematopoietic stem cell differentiation. He is also Theme Lead at the York Biomedical Research Institute and has held roles including Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences and Research Associate at York.
His work spans molecular mechanisms underlying blood disorders, such as myelofibrosis and essential thrombocythemia, and explores imaging technologies like holotomography for cell signaling analysis. Collaborations include studies on infectious diseases (leishmaniasis, malaria) and their hematological impacts, alongside projects investigating stromal microenvironments and extracellular matrix effects on hematopoiesis.
Dr. Hitchcock’s research integrates experimental and computational approaches, contributing to both basic science and translational medicine. His recent studies highlight the structural basis of MPL signaling, the impact of chronic infections on hemostasis, and novel imaging techniques for real-time cellular analysis.
