Ian Robinson is a Lecturer and Associate Research Scientist at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the Department of Sociology and the Residential College's Social Theory and Practice program. His work focuses on neoliberal economic restructuring, labor movements, and strategies for rebuilding union power in North America.
Robinson has participated in the CRIMT research network and held leadership positions in LEO (Lecturer Employees' Organization) and the Huron Valley Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. He also serves as faculty sponsor for the Washtenaw County Workers' Center and the Residential College's Spanish Language Internship Program. His research bridges academic inquiry with labor activism, examining topics like contingent faculty unionization and low-wage labor conditions.
Robinson's publications and ongoing research explore labor movement strategies, consumer-driven labor reforms, and the political economy of economic integration. He is deeply involved in community service learning pedagogy, co-teaching courses on race and class inequalities and the origins of social science thinking.
