Ian Parkes is a Lecturer and Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Architecture course at the Bath School of Design, Bath Spa University. As an architect and researcher, his work centers on social and affordable housing, low carbon design, and the creative reuse of existing structures, with a focus on sustainable practices such as Passivhaus standards.
- BSc (Hons) General Architectural Studies from the University of Bath
- MA in Architecture from the University of the West of England
- PGCert in Professional Practice and Management in Architecture from the University of the West of England
- Passivhaus Designer (AECB)
- ABBE Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency in Older and Traditional Buildings
His research investigates the interpretation and communication of spirit of place, memorialization in the built environment, and reconciling contested heritage through practice-based research and deep mapping. His work has been presented at conferences organized by the Centre for Death in Society and the Interdisciplinary Research Foundation.
Ian is also a vocal advocate for positive mental health in architectural education and practice. His professional qualifications and memberships include:
