معرفی
Ian McCue is an Assistant Professor and Morris E. Fine Junior Professor in Materials and Manufacturing at Northwestern University. His research focuses on scalable processing of nanostructured materials for structural applications, combining advanced manufacturing techniques with fundamental studies of microstructural behavior.
Education
- Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University
- B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University
Research Interests
Ian’s work addresses scalable manufacturing of nanostructured materials through three key areas: (1) development of novel nanocomposite fabrication processes, (2) investigation of mechanical behavior in nanostructured systems, and (3) fundamental studies of material architecture effects on diffusion and phase transformations. His team specializes in additive manufacturing, gas atomization, and high-temperature processing.
Scientific Awards
- Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award, Silver (2014)
- Invited Speaker at Gordon Research Conference – Physical Metallurgy (2019)
Labs and Facilities
The McCue Research Group operates a Versamelt Gas Atomizer for custom alloy powder fabrication and a 60 kW Induction Cold Crucible System for high-temperature refractory alloy processing. Their lab includes multiple controlled-atmosphere furnaces for heat treatments up to 1700°C.
