Sheng Guo

Sheng Guo serves as an Assistant Professor in the Materials and Manufacturing unit at Chalmers University of Technology, where he has been employed since 2013. His research focuses on high-entropy alloys (HEAs) and refractory multi-component alloys with applications in high-temperature environments requiring exceptional mechanical properties, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.

His primary research interests include:

• Alloy design of concentrated multi-component alloys with equiatomic or near-equiatomic compositions
• Mechanical behavior characterization of high-entropy alloys
• Additive manufacturing of HEAs and medium-entropy alloys
• Oxidation and corrosion resistance mechanisms
• Microstructural evolution during processing and service conditions

Analysis of his recent publications reveals strong emphasis on eutectic high-entropy alloys, refractory HEAs for ultrahigh-temperature applications, and the development of novel processing techniques including additive manufacturing. His work frequently examines the relationship between composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties across various temperature ranges.

Dr. Guo leads multiple significant research projects funded by Vetenskapsrådet (VR), EU, and VINNOVA, including HOTBOX (thermal energy storage), CocoMag (multi-property magnets), and projects focused on additively manufactured medical HEAs and ultrahigh-temperature materials.

His laboratory work involves extensive microstructural characterization, mechanical testing across temperature ranges, and development of novel alloy systems with targeted properties for specific applications. Current research directions include oxidation-resistant refractory HEAs, nitrogen-strengthened medium-entropy alloys, and composite materials for specialized industrial applications.
