معرفی
Paul Rottmann is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Kentucky, within the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering. His research focuses on linking macroscopic material properties to nanoscale mechanisms through advanced characterization techniques, with emphasis on additive manufacturing, refractory alloys, and thin film materials.
Education: Ph.D. (2017), M.S. (2012), and B.S. (2010) in Materials Science & Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and University of Kentucky respectively.
Research Interests:
- Processing-microstructure-property relationships in additively manufactured metals
- Development of novel high-temperature thin film alloys
- In situ mechanical testing and microstructural analysis using SEM-based techniques
- Quantification of deformation mechanisms in magnesium and refractory alloys
Recent Work: His group has investigated geometry effects on mechanical properties of additively manufactured metals, fracture behavior of porous carbon fiber networks, and microstructural evolution in Alnico magnets. Collaborations include NASA Langley and UK's Electron Microscopy Center.
Awards: No explicit scientific awards mentioned in texts provided.
Advising & Labs: Advised Ph.D. students Connor Varney (2024) and Nic Quammen (2024). Directs the Rottmann Research Group focused on advanced materials characterization using custom mechanical testing setups and in situ SEM techniques. Active in the UK Electron Microscopy Center for advanced imaging.
