معرفی
Ian McCracken is an MRC Transition Fellow at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (DPAG), University of Oxford, working within Dr. Nicola Smart's research group. His research focuses on elucidating molecular mechanisms controlling cardiovascular development, particularly transcriptional regulation of endothelial and endocardial cell differentiation.
His academic background includes:
- Undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from Royal Holloway, University of London
- PhD from the University of Edinburgh under the MRC Precision Medicine Doctoral Training Programme, supervised by Prof Andy Baker and Prof Chris Ponting
McCracken's research integrates single-cell RNA sequencing with human pluripotent stem cell differentiation models to investigate transcriptional landscapes during cardiac development. His current work examines endocardial plasticity mechanisms using in vivo and hiPSC-based in vitro approaches, aiming to identify therapeutic targets for heart regeneration following cardiovascular injury. This bridges developmental biology with regenerative medicine applications.
His 2024 preprint on arterial enhancers demonstrates expertise in genomic regulation of vascular development, representing ongoing contributions to cardiovascular genomics.
Key recognition:
- MRC Transition Fellowship (2020)
Funded by his MRC Transition Fellowship, McCracken leads independent research within Dr. Smart's group at DPAG, leveraging interdisciplinary collaborations to study endocardial-to-coronary endothelial cell transitions. The department's #1 QS World Ranking in Anatomy & Physiology provides an exceptional environment for his cardiovascular developmental biology investigations.
