Ian Keay

Professor Ian Keay is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Queen's University, part of the Faculty of Arts and Science. He holds the rank of Professor and has held visiting positions at Yale University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the Vancouver School of Economics at UBC. His research focuses on North American economic history, environmental and natural resource economics, and law and economics. He explores topics such as globalization impacts, Indigenous rights and resource values, regulatory frameworks, and historical policy analysis.

Keay earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of British Columbia (1999), an M.A. from McGill University (1993), and a B.A.H. from Queen's University (1992). His academic career includes post-doctoral research at McGill and teaching roles at Queen's since 2000, covering courses in economic history and environmental economics.

His research highlights include analyzing the economic effects of Indigenous rights recognition in Canada, studying the long-term impacts of commodity price volatility, and exploring historical trade policies.
