Dr. Ian Robinson is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media at Queen's University, within the Faculty of Arts and Science. He holds a PhD from York University and completed postdoctoral work at McGill University. Prior roles include Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Bonn's North American Studies MA Program and teaching positions at the University of Waterloo and OCAD University.
His research focuses on urban film cultures, event cinema, and the intersections of film and performance. Key interests include Canadian film policy, transnational dimensions of Canadian cinema, and the relationship between globalization/localization and film. Current projects explore geography and film theory's intersection to analyze filmmakers' responses to global/local dynamics.
Selected publications include studies on concert films as event cinema (2021), Toronto's cinematic representation (2019), and the discourses of European film audiences (2017). His work engages themes like cinematic cartography, urban peripheries, and transnational film practices.
Dr. Robinson's research has been published in journals like Cinéma & Cie and Canadian Journal of Film Studies, alongside contributions to edited volumes on urban cinema and media culture. He maintains an active academic profile through Academia.edu and collaborates with cultural institutions.
