Ian Gentle is Professor in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at the University of Queensland. His research explores organic materials for energy applications including photovoltaics, batteries, and OLEDs.
Dr. Gentle investigates thin film structures and interfaces in organic devices, using techniques such as X-ray reflectometry and neutron scattering. His work spans organic light-emitting diodes, solar cells, battery materials, and sensors.
Current projects include lithium-sulfur battery cathode development, organic photovoltaic optimization, and thin film morphology studies. Recent publications (2025) demonstrate advances in zinc-bromine flow batteries and organic solar cell efficiency.
He serves as Deputy Executive Dean in the Faculty of Science and collaborates with the Centre for Organic Photonics and Electronics. His research group focuses on material synthesis and device physics.
