Dr. Ian Drew is a Senior Lecturer and Undergraduate Programme Leader for Geographical Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University. He specializes in Earth Science, Physical Geography, and geoconservation. His research focuses on natural flood management, river and coastal processes, and environmental management, collaborating with organizations like the City of Trees and the Environment Agency. He chairs the Cheshire RIGS committee, promoting geoheritage conservation and public awareness.
Education: BSc in Geology & Physical Geography (University of Hull), PhD in river sediment transport processes (University of St Andrews).
Research interests span Earth structure, geomorphology, and applied environmental management. Current projects include geoconservation guides for Cheshire sites and natural flood management in Crompton Moor. Teaching includes Earth Science, geomorphology, and environmental management units in MSc programs.
External roles: External examiner for Physical Geography (Liverpool Hope University) and Countryside Management (Reaseheath/Harper Adams). Consultancy advising local authorities on geodiversity impacts in planning applications.
