Dr Grigorios Vasilopoulos is a Lecturer in Geospatial and Earth Observation at the University of Hull, affiliated with the Data Science AI and Modelling Centre (DAIM) within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on Earth surface processes, particularly rivers, deltas, and estuaries under anthropogenic and climatic pressures.
Education:
- BSc in Geology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 2011)
- MSc in GIS & Earth Observation (University of Twente, 2013)
- PhD in Physical Geography (University of Southampton, 2017)
Research Interests:
- Fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, and river science
- Remote Sensing and GIS applications
- Numerical/physical modeling of environmental systems
Recent work highlights include studies on PFAS detection in Philippine rivers, compound flooding in UK estuaries, and sediment dynamics in the Mekong Delta. He supervises PhD students in geomorphology and climate change-related topics.
Grants & Projects:
- Quantifying effects of hydrodynamic variability on the Humber Estuary's Turbidity Maximum Zone (£1,999.90, 2024–2026)
