Ian Dick is an Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Western Australia (UWA), with over 35 years of research experience. He holds a PhD from UWA (2001) focusing on estrogen’s role in renal calcium homeostasis, alongside advanced degrees including BSc, MMedSc, GradCertEnvMgt, and GradDip. His current role at the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) involves bioinformatic and biostatistical support for mesothelioma research, particularly neoantigen discovery and biomarker development.
Education and Career:
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences (UWA, 2001)
- BSc, MMedSc, GradCertEnvMgt (Murdoch University), GradDip (Curtin University)
Research Focus: Combines bioinformatics, genomics, and biostatistics to study mesothelioma pathogenesis, treatment targets, and biomarkers. Key areas include somatic mutation analysis, immune checkpoint blockade efficacy, and therapeutic target identification. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and disease eradication.
Grants and Projects:
- Chief Investigator in NHMRC-funded projects on aromatase gene polymorphisms (2007–2010)
- Lead bioinformatics support for NCARD’s neoantigen research program
Labs/Teams: Active within NCARD’s mesothelioma research group and collaborates internationally on genomic and immunological studies.
