Professor Ian Condry is a Cultural Anthropologist and faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Comparative Media Studies/Writing department with an affiliated appointment in Anthropology. He received his BA from Harvard University (1987) and PhD in Anthropology from Yale University (1999), joining MIT in 2002.

- Founder of the MIT Spatial Sound Lab (2019) for immersive sonic experimentation.
- Co-founder of Hearby.com, an AI-driven live music discovery platform.

His research spans Japanese hip-hop globalization, anime production, digital media ethics, and transmedia creativity. Articles highlight themes like collaborative media ecosystems, national identity in sound, and post-disaster cultural shifts. Condry's work often integrates ethnography with creative practice, bridging academia and artistry through projects like Leftroman music releases and co-organizing the Dissolve Music festival (2018, 2020). He contributes to debates on intellectual property and digital culture, emphasizing participatory fan economies over legalistic “piracy” frameworks.
