Prof Sir Ian Boyd is the Bishop Wardlaw Professor at the School of Biology, University of St Andrews. His research focuses on marine predator behavior, ecosystem management, and ecological economics. He holds academic qualifications including a B.Sc. from the University of Aberdeen, a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, and a D.Sc. from the University of Aberdeen.
His work bridges ecology and economics, examining sustainable resource use and predator-prey dynamics. Notable contributions include studies on marine mammals' behavioral responses to sonar and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. He has advised UK government bodies like DEFRA and contributed to international initiatives like the International Quiet Ocean Experiment.
