معرفی
Prof Sascha Hooker is a Professor and Deputy Head of School in the School of Biology at the University of St Andrews. She holds affiliations with the Scottish Oceans Institute, Institute of Behavioural and Neural Sciences, Sea Mammal Research Unit, and Marine Alliance for Science & Technology Scotland. Her research focuses on marine mammal foraging and diving behavior, conservation biology, and the impacts of anthropogenic factors like sound and pollutants.
Education & Research: Her work applies physiological and behavioral insights to conservation planning, including marine protected areas and ecosystem management. She has led projects on beaked whales, harbor seals, and the effects of sonar exposure, with a focus on decompression sickness risks.
Research Interests: Marine predator ecology, diving physiology, and spatial conservation strategies. Current projects include predator foraging ecology using animal-borne cameras, modeling dive risks, and marine reserve effectiveness.
Publications & Awards: Over 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Awards include the 2017 Zoological Society of London Marsh Award for Marine Conservation and Fellowship in the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Grants include Wellcome Trust ISSF funding for mental health initiatives and women in STEM programs.
Grants & Students: Advised PhD students Duncan Macdougall and Maeva Terrapon. Projects funded include studies on beaked whale acoustics and marine reserve design. Active in public outreach, including beach surveys and education programs.
Labs & Collaborations: Collaborates internationally on cetacean behavior and conservation. Key affiliations include the Sea Mammal Research Unit and interdisciplinary teams addressing ocean health challenges.
