Dr. Iain Williamson is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the MSc Health Psychology at De Montfort University's School of Applied Social Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. He is a critical health psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council (2009-2013) and chartered with the British Psychological Society, with extensive experience in addressing health inequalities in marginalized communities through qualitative research methodologies.
Dr. Williamson's research interests focus on critical health psychology with particular emphasis on breastfeeding and infant nutrition across diverse cultural contexts, chronic illness experiences, social and cultural diversity in healthcare, lesbian and gay health and well-being, and eating disorders. His methodological expertise spans interpretative phenomenological analysis, in-depth interviewing, audio-diary techniques, and Q-methodology, allowing him to deeply explore lived experiences of health and illness.
His publication portfolio demonstrates consistent engagement with health disparities, showing progression from early work on breastfeeding experiences among British Muslim and white women to more recent investigations of antimicrobial resistance, peritoneal mesothelioma, and eating disorder treatment transitions. His research consistently centers marginalized voices including LGBTQ+ communities, ethnic minorities, and those facing chronic health conditions.
