Dr Amy Burton is an Associate Professor at Staffordshire University's Department of Psychology within the Health, Education, Policing and Sciences school. She holds dual registrations as a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)-registered Health Psychologist. Her research focuses on qualitative methodologies (e.g., photo-elicitation, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) applied to healthcare challenges like breastfeeding support, rare disease management (e.g., Hereditary Angioedema), and aging populations.
Education includes a BSc Psychology and MSc Health Psychology from Staffordshire University, followed by a PhD in Health Science (Aston University) investigating age-related macular degeneration's psychosocial impacts. She has secured over £170,000 in grants, including funding for participatory research projects with community stakeholders and policy advocacy initiatives.
Research interests span women’s health (breastfeeding challenges, maternal nutrition), chronic pain management across cultures, and sensory disability. She has supervised 10+ doctoral students and contributed to national policy through projects addressing breastfeeding inequities in UK Pakistani communities and emergency care protocols for rare diseases.
Awards include the 2023 Whatuni Student Choice Awards for Facilities and Social Inclusion, and recognition in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 for 'World Leading' research quality.
