Massachusetts Institute of Technologyمعرفی
Iain W. Stewart is a Professor of Physics at MIT, holding the Otto (1939) and Jane Morningstar Professorship in Science. He is affiliated with the MIT Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP-LI). His research focuses on theoretical nuclear and particle physics, particularly the development and application of Effective Field Theories (EFTs), including the Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET), to study collider physics and QCD. Stewart has contributed to Quasi-Distributions, Heavy Quark Effective Theory, and Nucleon Effective Theory.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physics, California Institute of Technology (1999)
- M.Sc. in Physics, University of Manitoba (1995)
- B.Sc. (Honors) in Physics and Mathematics, University of Manitoba (1994)
Research Interests: His work addresses fundamental questions in particle interactions, including weak, electromagnetic, and strong interactions. Current focus includes theoretical frameworks for proton collisions at the LHC, such as Higgs and jet production. SCET is a key tool for separating short- and long-distance physics in collider experiments.
Awards & Honors:
- 2024 Frank E. Perkins Award
- 2021 Morningstar Professorship
- 2014 Simons Investigator
- 2008 Bessel Award
- Multiple teaching and advising recognitions
Grants & Labs: Active in LHC-related theoretical work, contributing to collaborations like SCET applications for jet physics and B meson studies. His team develops tools for precision calculations in particle physics.
