Achim Hermann Hölter is a full professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Vienna (since 2009), serving as chair and head of department. Previously, he held professorial roles at the University of Münster (1997–2009) and visiting positions at institutions including the University of Bochum and guest professorships in Bergamo, Mendoza, and Prague. His research focuses on comparative literary studies, including ritualization of literature, historiography of arts, aesthetic metareference, and canon debate.
Key academic contributions include editorship of major works such as Handbuch Komparatistik (2013) and Frühe Romantik - frühe Komparatistik (2001). He has received prestigious awards including the DFG Heisenberg Scholarship (1995–1997) and habilitation scholarship (1991–1993). His scholarly activities extend to leadership roles, including presidency of the German Society for General and Comparative Literature (2005–2011) and vice-presidency of the Heimito von Doderer-Gesellschaft.
