Hélène Mayrand is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Sherbrooke, where she also serves as Director of the Doctoral Program and Interim Director of the Master's Program in Law. Her research focuses on Critical Legal Approaches, Migration and Refugee Law, Environmental Law, and Public International Law. She co-founded the Laboratoire pour la recherche critique en droit and served as Vice-Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in 2022-2023.

Her critical scholarship examines contradictions in international environmental law, particularly linking neoliberalism to environmental governance and hydrocarbon exploitation in the Arctic and Quebec. She analyzes Canadian immigration law through critical lenses, focusing on refugee status cessation and Safe Third Country Agreements with the U.S. Her recent publications address environmental justice, legal theories, and climate change impacts on Arctic communities.
She has secured grants from organizations including SSHRC, FRQSC, and the Quebec Bar Foundation for research on critical environmental law and migration policies. Mayrand is actively involved in organizing academic workshops and conferences, including those on Arctic environmental protection and critical legal scholarship.
