Hélène MASCLAUX is an Assistant Professor at the Université de Franche-Comté, affiliated with the Chrono-Environment Research Department (UMR 6249 CNRS/UFC) in Besançon, France. Her work focuses on limnology, food webs, and the carbon cycle, particularly in lentic ecosystems. She leads research on how disturbances and land use affect carbon transfer in lake systems, leveraging paleolimnological methods. Current projects include the IRP Cold Forests (2021–2026), Carbonium (2023–2026), and DEEP-C consortia. She advises student Manon Boulay and collaborates on studies of methane production in lake sediments.
Her research integrates spatial and temporal analyses of stable isotopes in organisms like Daphnia, linking ecological processes to climate impacts. Key themes include trophic interactions, microbial community dynamics, and the role of pollen in freshwater food webs. Projects like CARLA (2023–2026) explore carbon sinks and methane emissions across scales.
Publications highlight her expertise in lake ecosystems, resource partitioning, and environmental microbiology. She has contributed to understanding how temperature and food quality influence cladoceran biology and nutrient cycling. Her work bridges laboratory experiments with field studies in wetlands and mountain lakes.
