Hyejin Kim, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Adult Health and Gerontological Nursing at Rush University's College of Nursing. Her research focuses on stress management for family caregivers of individuals with dementia, mental health equity for Asian American older adults, and the application of music-based interventions in geriatric care. She holds a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh (2019) and advanced nursing degrees from Ewha Womans University (2014) and Dankook University (2007) in South Korea. Dr. Kim is affiliated with multiple Rush University colleges, including the College of Health Sciences and Rush Medical College.
Her research employs innovative methodologies such as saliva-based stress hormone analysis and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to evaluate caregiver outcomes. Key themes include cross-cultural healthcare disparities, the psychosocial impacts of dementia caregiving, and patient perception of cognitive conditions versus physical illnesses. She has conducted pilot studies on in-home interventions and biomarker collection feasibility, demonstrating commitment to practical, community-based solutions.
Dr. Kim’s work bridges clinical practice and public health, addressing gaps in culturally competent care for aging populations. Her publications span topics from amyloid PET scan disclosure ethics to systematic reviews of illness perception frameworks in South Korea. She actively contributes to advancing nursing science through rigorous, patient-centered research.
