Huw Edwards is a Senior Lecturer in Economics and Programme Lead for the Economics and Finance MSc at Loughborough University. His academic career spans over two decades, with roles including undergraduate programmes director during the Economics and Business School merger. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick, an MSc from the University of York, and an MA from the University of Cambridge.
His research focuses on trade theory/policy, energy economics, institutional economics, and general equilibrium analysis. Key areas include post-Brexit trade strategies, UK productivity puzzles, and the impact of trade policies on firm performance. He leads the Trade Agreements Research Interest Group (TRANSIT) and previously headed the Centre for Firms in the Global Economy (FGE-RIG).
Edwards has advised UK government agencies on energy and environmental policy, including coal/electricity industries and greenhouse gas projections. His Brexit-related work includes high-profile conferences and evidence submissions to parliamentary committees. Over 30 PhD students have been supervised/co-supervised, with topics ranging from wage inequality to export quality upgrading.
His international collaborations include joint supervision with KU Leuven and co-authorships with institutions like the University of Nottingham and Queen Mary University of London. He has secured grants including £10k from the ESRC for Brexit-related research.
