Professor Hussein Kassim is a leading academic in European public policy and administration at the University of Warwick. He holds a Senior Fellowship with the ESRC's 'UK in a Changing Europe' initiative and serves as a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Bruges), Birkbeck University of London, and Paris 1 Panthéon-La Sorbonne. His research focuses on EU institutions, Brexit, UK-EU relations, and EU civil service dynamics. Kassim has been Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator (Co-I) on grants from the British Academy, ESRC, Nuffield Foundation, and EU, emphasizing collaborative interdisciplinary work.
Education: B.A. in PPE (New College, Oxford), MPhil and DPhil in Politics (Nuffield College, Oxford). Career includes professorships at University of East Anglia (2007-2023), Birkbeck (1994-2007), and visiting roles at Columbia University, Sciences Po Paris, and Harvard University.
Research highlights include studies on EU civil service gender dynamics, Brexit negotiations, and institutional leadership. He co-edited National Government Narratives of the EU (2025) and authored influential works on the European Commission's evolution.
