Huse Tone is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK) at the University of Oslo, with a secondary affiliation as Associate Professor II at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. His work bridges political geography, science and technology studies, and urban research.
His research focuses on the materialities and geographies of politics, examining how policy is enacted through governmental technologies. Key themes include colonial architecture in the Arctic, urban climate politics, gentrification processes, and marine economics. He investigates how natural objects become commodities and how spatial arrangements produce political subjects, particularly in post-colonial contexts.
Huse's recent publications reveal a strong trajectory in decolonial urban studies and STS-informed political ecology. His 2023 book Nature-Made Economy (MIT Press) analyzes the commodification of ocean resources, while his 2024 article on Temporal displacement examines architectural contestation in colonial contexts. His work consistently engages with Arctic urbanism through the UrbTrans project.
As a core member of TIK's STS Group and the Stakes of Democracy research collective, Huse contributes to critical analyses of technological governance. His current project Enacting the good economy investigates biocapitalization processes through 'little tools of valuation' in marine markets.
