Humbert Lucas is a contractual doctoral student teaching at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), affiliated with the Chinese Studies department. His research focuses on Chinese philosophy, Confucianism, and Neo-Confucianism, particularly during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), with a special interest in the history of 'philosophical conversation' (jiangxue 講學) and 'Chinese intuitionism' (xinxue 心學).

His work often involves analyzing Confucian maxims, such as 'Cultiver sa personne pour être vu du monde,' and their societal implications.
