Hugo Silva

Hugo Silva is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation at UTAD, serving as Director of the MSc in Informatics Engineering. He concurrently holds a Senior Researcher position at INESC TEC, focusing on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), particularly in crowd computing, collaborative systems, and accessibility. Previously, he was a visiting faculty member at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) at Carnegie Mellon University. Before academia, he worked as a software engineer at SiBS and Novabase Outsourcing.

Education: B.Eng. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minho, followed by Habilitation from UTAD. His research spans over 100 refereed articles, a granted patent, and leadership in national/international projects. He contributes to academic governance as a member of the J.UCS board of editors, guest editor for JCR journal special issues, and organizer of international conferences.

His work bridges theoretical HCI advancements with practical applications in accessibility and collaborative technologies. Projects frequently emphasize crowd-driven systems and inclusive design principles. Professional activities include academic service roles and industry-academia collaborations.
