Dr. Hugo Darras is an Assistant Professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2023, leading the Group Darras focused on genetic systems and social evolution in ants. Previously a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Lausanne (2017-2023), he earned his PhD from Université Libre de Bruxelles (2017) and MSc from AgroParisTech (2011).
- Research Group: Group Darras studies unusual reproductive strategies in ants
- Email: Not publicly listed
Research Interests: Dr. Darras investigates transitions between genetic systems in ants, including social hybridogenesis, double-clonality, and male chimerism. His work integrates population genetics, genomics, and cytology to explore how haplodiploidy and social organization facilitate these systems.
Article Trends: His recent publications highlight genetic mechanisms in invasive ant species, epigenetic regulation in sex determination, and genomic consequences of hybridogenetic reproduction. Key themes include reproductive anomalies, thermal adaptation, and lncRNA functions.
Group Members: Current advisees include PhD students Chuanxin Yu and Ina Köhler (co-supervised with Martelli Lab), and Master’s students Lena Fröhlich, Emilia Maria Romero Pineda, and Teo Danja Llazo.
Labs & Teams: Affiliated with the Institute of Organismic and Molecular Evolution at JGU Mainz, his lab collaborates internationally on ant genomics and reproduction.
