Hubert Mielnik

Dr. Hubert Mielnik is a Lecturer at the Department of History of State and Law, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), where he has worked since 2016. He earned his doctorate in 2020 from the Institute of Legal Studies at UMCS, focusing on the judiciary of the General Government during WWII.

His research centers on Legal History, particularly the judiciary and legal systems in Nazi-occupied Poland (General Government and Third Reich). Key subfields include criminal law under wartime conditions, special courts (Sondergerichte), legal colonialism, and judicial practices in authoritarian regimes. Recent publications analyze legal theses by Polish courts, property confiscation, and child rights under Nazi legislation.

Scientific awards highlight his contributions, including 1st place in Best Legal Historical Monograph (2020-2022) and multiple institutional scholarships. He is a member of the European Society for the History of Law, the Polish Society for the History of Law, and the editorial board of Glosa: Economic Law in Judgments and Commentaries. Teaching recognitions include the Homo Didacticus award for excellence in pedagogy (2022/2023).
