Hrach Gregorian is the MA International Peace and Conflict Resolution Program Director at the School of International Service, American University. He holds academic roles as a member of the graduate faculty at Royal Roads University (Canada) and the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary, alongside being a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Victoria’s Centre for Global Studies. His career spans over 35 years in peace operations and conflict management, with field experience across Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, and Asia.
- Education: Ph.D. & M.A. from Brandeis University; B.A. from Boston University
Research focuses on interagency coordination in peace operations, energy-conflict dynamics, and innovative peacebuilding methods such as art-based trauma healing. Co-founder of the Alliance for Peacebuilding and a former founding program director at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), he developed early conflict negotiation frameworks.
Awards: Distinguished Alumnus recognition from the Canadian Defence & Foreign Affairs Institute.
Teaching includes courses on qualitative research methods, peacebuilding practicums, and post-war healing. Engaged with strategic partner RESOLVE (Washington-based INGO) and actively contributes to global peace initiatives through collaborative institutional partnerships.
