Howard Lupovitch is a Professor of History and Director of the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at Wayne State University. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Columbia University (1996), M.A. (1987), and B.A. (1986) in History and Music from the University of Michigan. His research focuses on modern Jewish history, particularly the Jews of Hungary and the Habsburg Monarchy, with recent work on Budapest’s Jewish community and the Neolog Movement. He teaches courses on modern America, Holocaust history, and global historical perspectives.
Key publications include Transleithanian Paradise (2022). He has been featured in media discussions on Middle East conflicts, Israeli-Palestinian relations, and the ADL Walk Against Hate. Lupovitch received the Simons Award and maintains active roles in academic leadership, including directing Judaic studies programs. His scholarship bridges urban history with religious and ethnic identity studies, emphasizing transnational Jewish experiences.
