Howard Jackson is a Professor at the University of Cincinnati, specializing in semiconductor physics and nanomaterials. His research focuses on low-dimensional semiconductors, quantum dots, and advanced optical techniques like photoluminescence and Raman scattering. He has pioneered studies on II-VI quantum dots, near-field microscopy, and ultrafast laser systems. Jackson has secured substantial funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other agencies, including grants totaling over $7 million for nanotechnology and education initiatives.
His research interests span semiconductor nanowires, topological materials (e.g., Weyl semimetals like NbIrTe4 and Bi2Se3), and optoelectronic devices. Notable projects include developing mid-infrared microscopes and nanoscale biosensors. Jackson has also led interdisciplinary STEM education reforms, such as the Cincinnati Engineering Enhanced Mathematics and Science (CEEMS) program.
Scientific achievements include being a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a recipient of the University of Cincinnati Graduate School Fellowship. His work bridges fundamental physics and applied technologies, with collaborations across materials science, electrical engineering, and biomedicine.
